Community involvement

Here at RMLS we like to get involved in supporting community groups and charities where we can.   Please read on to find out about some of the events that we have supported either by donating time or money.

Yorkshire Women Volunteer Awards 2019
RMLS are very proud to support the inaugural Yorkshire Women Volunteer Awards, which are taking place on 10 May at the Marriott Hotel in Leeds.  It is wonderful to see women from all four corners of Yorkshire nominated for these awards and their stories are truly inspirational.  Rebecca is very much looking forward to attending the awards and meeting some of the amazing women.

Selby Children's Literature Festival 2019
Rebecca was very pleased to give up her time and volunteer at this second edition of the Selby children's Literature Festival.  The event was again organised by author and poet Christina Gabbitas, whose drive to create an accessible literature festival open to all children and families regardless of background is fantastic.  Once again the festival was a great success and we look forward to supporting future festivals.

Poems and Pictures Eight Line Rhyme Competition 2018

Rebecca is very much looking forward to being one of the judges for the competition again this year.  The competition is aimed at seven to eleven year olds to encourage them to have a go at writing an eight line rhyme on a particular topic.  This year's topic is 'The Sea' and competition organiser Christina Gabbitas is hoping that it will highlight the plight of our oceans, which are being swamped in plastic.  We are sure that there will be some very thought-provoking entries.

FOSS Summer Ball

We are proud to be one of the sponsor's of the above event organised by the PTA of St Martin's C of E VA Primary School in Fangfoss near York.  The school is raising money for many things, including new outdoor classroom facilities and playground equipment.

Selby District Children's Reading Festival 2017
In March 2017 Rebecca was very pleased to give up her time and donate professional services to help run this great event organised by author and poet Christina Gabbitas.   The event was organised following some research that Christina did last year. Out of 350 literature festivals in the UK less than 10% have children’s events during their programme.   The idea of a reading festival was therefore born out of the wish to create something that is accessible to all.  Christina wanted to give children from all backgrounds and abilities an equal opportunity to attend a book-centred event.  It was a great success and we look forward to supporting Christina with future festivals in other locations.

Poems and Pictures Eight Line Rhyme Competition 2017
Rebecca is very honoured to have been asked to be one of the judges for the competition this year.  The competition is aimed at seven to eleven year olds to encourage them to have a go at writing an eight line rhyme on a particular topic.  Now in its fifth year it is attracting many entries and Rebecca can't wait to start judging the best ones.
